Ian has over 40 years of experience in the financial services and investment industries specializing in investment, estate and tax management. Since 1989, he has had direct hands-on investment management experience managing portfolios for families and charitable foundations. Before joining Raymond James, Ian spent five years as Chairman and owner of an independent investment counselling firm in Toronto, Canada . Prior to this, Ian spent 25 years building an independent investment counsel based on wealth management services. From 1984-1989, Ian was employed by a major brokerage firm in Toronto, ultimately as a Vice President and Director, Investment Banking, where his responsibilities included new issues, capital market transactions, interest and currency swaps, risk assessment and special situation analysis.
Prior to that, Ian spent 10 years with a major Canadian life insurance company, latterly as Vice President of Pension and Investment Operations, with responsibilities for North American pension profit centres, investment operations and asset-liability management.
Ian holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Toronto. Ian is also qualified as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and as a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He has served on the Board of Directors of the West Park Foundation, a charitable foundation serving the West Park Health Care Centre.
